School Council
At St Faith’s, our pupils are at the heart of all decision making. We want all children to have a voice and so it is vital that we listen to them. We are constantly looking at ways to develop our school and the children's involvement in this is key. Children regularly share ideas and opinions in class and through the School Council can have their ideas heard and shared.
The School Council is created by children from years 1 to 6 putting themselves forward for nomination as their class representative on the council. Each nominee then prepares a speech on the qualities that would make them a good candidate. The class then votes for one pupil from their class to represent them. The second School Councillor from each class is then selected by the class teacher from those nominated.
2025- 2026:
Autumn Term:
This term, we wanted to create an Anti- Bullying Charter. During Anti- Bullying week, we learnt what bullying is and explored how we can use our 'Power for Good' to speak out, support others, and build a world where kindness wins. Our core Christian values of Kindness, Trust and Courage underpin our commitment to ensuring bullying does not go undetected or challenged. We asked our classes for ideas about how we keep our school a safe and happy place and who can we talk to if we are being bullied or witness it.
Here is our Anti- Bullying Charter:
St Faith's CofE Anti-Bullying Charter
At St Faith’s, we do not tolerate bullying. We understand that bullying is when someone makes us feel frightened by hurting us or our feelings, over a period of time. Our core Christian values of Kindness, Trust and Courage underpin our commitment to ensuring bullying does not go undetected or challenged.
How we keep our school a safe and happy place?
We will use kind words, kind hands and kind feet.
We will treat others with respect.
We will encourage each other.
We will help and care for each other.
We will follow our school rules and values.
We will include everyone and ask people to join in so they are not lonely.
We will take responsibility for our own actions and words.
We will say No for bullying and report it if we see it.
If we have a problem, we can talk to:
Our teachers and teaching assistants
Any member of staff within school
Our parents/ carers and family
Our friends
2024- 2025:
This year, we wanted to create an Anti- Racism Charter. After reading read the 3 main principles in the Southwark Diocese Anti-Racism Charter, in our School Council meetings, we thought about what we already do in school to celebrate our differences. We then collected ideas and opinions of our peers about the importance of an Anti- Racism Charter and how it will help us. Here are some of the ideas we gathered:
How we celebrate differences at St Faith’s:
- Sharing our own views and opinions
- Listening to others’ views and opinions
- Playing altogether
- Learning about other religions and cultures in RE
- Through our weekly PSHE lessons
- Celebrating Black History Month
- Star of the Week
- Odd Sock Day
- Learning about important celebrations in other religions
- Giving compliments
- Working in team
We thought about what an Anti- Racism Charter would mean for our St Faith’s School community and we decided:
It will remind us that we are all different and this is what makes us special
It will teach us to not tolerate racism
It will help us to understand the responsibility we have if we witness racism
It will help us to think about what Jesus would do and to always do the right thing
It will teach us to be inclusive and know we can be friends no matter our race and culture
St Faith’s Anti-Racism Charter
God began by making one man. From him came all different people who live everywhere in the world. Acts 17:26
In our school, everyone is welcomed and celebrated.
Racism will not be tolerated and we know that if we see racism happening, we need to report it to an adult straight away.
In our school, we follow the Christian values of kindness, trust and courage and these underpin all that we do.
We take time to understand and celebrate other people’s cultures and religions and take pride in our own culture.
