Phonics

We follow the Read Write Inc. phonics scheme, please see the Phonics page on the school website for more information.

Focus story

Each week we have a new focus story that children will listen to, join in with, learn about (and around) and have activities linked to daily. We also have a 'word of the week' that is linked to the story.

Challenge time

Challenge time is a carousel of activities where children work in small groups either with an adult or independently. Within these challenges there are opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge or practice learnt skills independently, covering the different areas of the curriculum.

Independent Learning

Children have access to both the inside and outside learning environments. There are opportunities to explore child-initiated (self-access) activities and adult-initiated (set up) activities, using a wide range of resources and with links to the different areas of the curriculum.

Maths

We follow NCETM's Maths Mastery and White Rose schemes of work.

Carpet inputs

These are short carpet inputs which provide opportunities to introduce, practice or explore different areas of the curriculum.

PE

Reception currently have their PE lesson on a Friday.

Early Learning Goals

These are the areas of learning and the criteria for achieving these goals by the end of the Reception year.
