Learning Together For All To Succeed

Physical Education (PE)

‘The primary school physical education (PE) and sports funding is spent effectively to
encourage pupils to participate in sport and to promote healthy lifestyles. Pupils take part in a wide range of sports, such as taekwondo, ballet and multi-sports.’- OfSTED 2019

At St Faith’s, we encourage children to live life to its fullest by developing a positive attitude and the skills required to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. All activities are appropriately tailored to meet every child’s needs and provide the foundation for lifelong success, whether participating in sport for leisure or with competitive aspirations. Children have the opportunity to participate in competitions and tournaments with other schools.

Curriculum Intent:

St Faith’s own curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils will:

  • Increase their levels of physical activity for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Lead healthy, active lives and take responsibility for their own health and fitness
  • Foster a positive attitude and interest in a wider range of physical activities
  • Develop each individual child’s self-esteem, well-being, confidence and social skills (including team work and cooperation)
  • Gain further knowledge of the different areas of P.E. (dance, games, gymnastics, athletics, swimming, outdoor activities) [e.g. the rules of different games]

Curriculum Implementation:

Our PE curriculum is taught:

  • By providing challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities including; invasion games, net & wall activities, striking and fielding events, gymnastics, dance, OAA and swimming
  • Ensuring the requirements of the National Curriculum and EYFS Framework are met and lessons are progressive
  • By delivering two high quality PE lessons each week, covering two sporting disciplines every term. In addition, children are encouraged to participate in the varied range of extra-curricular activities available after school
  • By a qualified PE specialist, Kick London, for KS2.

In addition:

  • We have annual Sports Days for our KS1/Ks2 and EYFS with the emphasis on participation and achievement for all
  • Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will swim once a week for one term
  • We offer a residential experience for children in Year 6
