Learning Together For All To Succeed

Late/Absence Procedures

Punctuality

Registration time is at 8:40am, the beginning of the morning session, and by 1:35pm for the afternoon session. It is so important for your child to be on time, as missing the first few minutes of any lesson can be disruptive and unsettling, both for your child and for the rest of the class. If your child arrives in school after this time, we will register them as unauthorised for that session, so persistent lateness will also affect your child’s attendance figures.

Procedures for Absence and Lateness

It is essential that everyone involved in promoting attendance is clear about the expectations and procedures. It is the responsibility of the whole school community to promote excellent attendance at school.

  • If your child is going to be absent for the day or for part of the day, you must ring the School Office by 8:30am to inform them of the reason so that it can be added to the register.
  • If you are collecting your child early for an appointment that cannot be made outside of school hours, you will be asked to sign them out by the School Office and to provide evidence of the appointment.
  • If your child is late to school, you will be asked to provide a reason and this will be recorded on the register.

If you Need to Request a Period of Absence

If you need to make a request to the Headteacher for a period of absence, you should collect a Leave of Absence Request Form from the School Office. Please return your form as early as possible, so that there is time for the request to be considered and for approval to be given, if appropriate. It is likely that the Headteacher will want to meet with you to discuss your reasons for term-time absence and the effect on your child’s learning. Unless exceptional circumstances, all term-time absence will be unauthorised, and recorded as such on the attendance register.
